The present invention is a steel, excellent in machinability, wherein forging workability is improved by suppressing the deterioration of mechanical properties in the direction in which the mechanical properties are the lowest, and more specifically, is a steel excellent in forgeability and machinability, characterized in that: the steel contains, in mass, C: 0.1 to 0.85%, Si: 0.01 to 1.5%, Mn: 0.05 to 2.0%, P: 0.003 to 0.2%, S: 0.003 to 0.5%, and Zr: 0.0003 to 0.01%; the following steel components are controlled in the following ranges respectively, in mass, Al: 0.01% or less, total O: 0.02% or less, and total N: 0.02% or less; the average aspect ratio of MnS grains is 10 or less and the maximum aspect ratio of those is 30 or less; and the balance of the steel components consists of Fe and unavoidable impurities.

La actual invención es un acero, excelente en manufacturabilidad, en donde forjar workability es mejorada suprimiendo la deterioración de características mecánicas en la dirección de la cual las características mecánicas son las más bajas, y más específicamente, es un acero excelente en el forgeability y la manufacturabilidad, caracterizados en ése: el acero contiene, en la masa, C: 0.1 a 0.85%, silicio: 0.01 a 1.5%, manganeso: 0.05 a 2.0%, P: 0.003 a 0.2%, S: 0.003 a 0.5%, y zr: 0.0003 a 0.01%; los componentes de acero siguientes se controlan en las gamas siguientes respectivamente, en la masa, al: 0.01% o menos, O total: 0.02% o menos, y N total: 0.02% o menos; el cociente de aspecto medio de los granos de MnS es 10 o menos y el cociente de aspecto máximo de ésos es 30 o menos; y el equilibrio de los componentes de acero consiste en el FE e impurezas inevitables.
