The invention relates to a process which is suitable for applying a permanently
adhering, stable, dirt and water repellent coating to metallic surfaces, specifically
chromium surfaces, specifically sanitary and kitchen fixtures, and also to the
components coated in this manner. The process is based on first chemically activating
the surface and then coating it by means of a sol.
