A fan (10) is disclosed having a downrod (11), a motor (12), a motor
housing (13) substantially encasing the motor (12), and blades (14)
mounted to the motor housing (13). Each blade (14) has an air intake scoop
(16 adjacent to and extending from the motor housing (13). The interior
space (17) created by the intake scoop (16) is in fluid communication with
an opening (18) extending through the motor housing (13). Rotational
movement of the air intake scoops (16) create airstreams which are
directed to the electric motor for ventilation purposes.
