A method for generating an aerosol includes the step of guiding a gas which flows
at supersonic velocity and which has input particles suspended therein in such
a way that a compression shock occurs. The input particles are broken down into
smaller output particles upon crossing the compression shock. A device for generating
an aerosol is also provided.
