A composition comprising a boron or aluminum containing neutral Lewis acid and a compound of formula I or Ia: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are each independently hydrocarbyl, substituted hydrocarbyl, or silyl; Q is (i) C--R.sup.4, where R.sup.4 is hydrocarbyl, substituted hydrocarbyl, heteroatom connected hydrocarbyl, or heteroatom connected substituted hydrocarbyl, (ii) P(NH.sub.2).sub.2, or (iii) S(NH)(NH.sub.2) or S(O)(OH); L is a monoolefin or a neutral Lewis base that can be displaced by a monoolefin; T is hydrogen, hydrocarbyl or substituted hydrocarbyl, or with L forms a .pi.-allyl group; and M is Ni(II), Pd(II), Co(II) or Fe(II). The composition is useful as an olefin polymerization catalyst. Also described is a process for preparing a supported catalyst.

Una composición que abarca un boro o un aluminio que contiene el ácido neutral de Lewis y un compuesto del fórmula I o de Ia: ## del ## STR1 en donde R.sup.1 y R.sup.2 son cada uno independientemente hydrocarbyl, hydrocarbyl substituido, o silyl; Q es (i) C -- R.sup.4, donde está hydrocarbyl, hydrocarbyl substituido, hydrocarbyl conectado heteroatom, o hydrocarbyl R.sup.4 substituido conectado heteroatom, (ii) P(NH.sub.2).sub.2, o (iii) S(NH)(NH.sub.2) o S(O)(OH); L es un monoolefin o una base neutral de Lewis que se pueden desplazar por un monoolefin; T es hidrógeno, hydrocarbyl o hydrocarbyl substituido, o con L forma un grupo el pi.-alílico; y M es Ni(II), Pd(II), Co(II) o Fe(II). La composición es útil como catalizador de la polimerización del olefin. También se describe un proceso para preparar un catalizador apoyado.
