Compounds represented by the formula ##STR1## wherein R and R.sub.1 independently represent H, --CH.sub.2 CN or --CH.sub.2 CO.sub.2 X, with the proviso that R and R.sub.1 can not be both H or --CH.sub.2 CO.sub.2 X; and X represents hydrogen, an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal are disclosed. These compounds are useful as intermediate compounds in the preparation of N-[2-(carboxymethoxy)ethyl]-N-(carboxy-methyl)glycine. These intermediates can be formed by contacting 3-morpholinone with glycolonitrile under alkaline conditions to form an aminonitrile which can be hydrolyzed and contacted with additional glycolonitrile to form the nitrile intermediate which can be converted to N-[2-(carboxymethoxy)ethyl]-N-(carboxymethyl)glycine via hydrolysis.

Composés représentés par le ## du ## STR1 de formule où R et R.sub.1 représentent indépendamment H, -- CH.sub.2 CN ou -- CH.sub.2 CO.sub.2 X, à la condition que R et R.sub.1 ne puissent pas être H ou -- CH.sub.2 CO.sub.2 X ; et X représente l'hydrogène, un métal alcalin ou le métal alcalinoterreux sont révélés. Ces composés sont utiles en tant que composés intermédiaires dans la préparation de N-[2-(carboxymethoxy)ethyl]-N-(carboxy-methyl)glycine. Ces intermédiaires peuvent être constituées par 3-morpholinone entrant en contact dans des conditions alkalines de dessous glycolonitrile pour former un aminonitrile qui peut être hydrolysé et entré en contact avec glycolonitrile additionnel pour former l'intermédiaire de nitriles qui peut être convertie en N-[2-(carboxymethoxy)ethyl]-N-(carboxymethyl)glycine par l'intermédiaire de l'hydrolyse.
