The invention relates to a dispersion-shifted single-mode fiber having cladding of given refractive index (n.sub.s) and a fiber core having an index profile that is in the shape of a trapezium, a triangle, or a rectangle, together with a first ring, the index profile of the fiber core having an outer, second ring of index (n.sub.3) greater than the index of said cladding (n.sub.s), said fiber being characterized in that the index (n.sub.3) of said second ring is greater than or equal to the index (n.sub.2) of said first ring. The invention provides better control over the wavelength at which chromatic dispersion is zero, while conserving the other transmission characteristics of known fibers, such as mode diameter and attenuation.

L'invention concerne une fibre unimodale dispersion-shifted ayant le revêtement de l'indice de réfraction donné (n.sub.s) et un noyau de fibre ayant un profil d'index qui est dans la forme d'un trapezium, une triangle, ou un rectangle, ainsi qu'un premier anneau, le profil d'index du noyau de fibre ayant un externe, le deuxième anneau de l'index (n.sub.3) plus grand que l'index de ledit revêtement (n.sub.s), ladite fibre étant caractérisée parce que l'index (n.sub.3) de ledit deuxième anneau est supérieur ou égal à l'index (n.sub.2) de ledit premier anneau. L'invention fournit un meilleur contrôle de la longueur d'onde à laquelle la dispersion chromatique est zéro, tout en conservant les autres caractéristiques de transmission des fibres connues, telles que le diamètre de mode et l'atténuation.
