A one-dimensional nanostructure multi-port coupler (100, 300, 400, 600) is
provided for use in an RF device (700). The coupler (100, 300, 400, 600)
includes a first plurality of one-dimensional nanostructures (102)
aligned substantially in a first direction (110) and coupled between the
input (103) and first output (103'), and a second plurality of
one-dimensional nanostructures (104) substantially aligned in a second
direction (112), coupled to a second output (105), and disposed
contiguous to the first plurality of one-dimensional nanostructures
(102). The first and second plurality of one-dimensional nanostructures
(102, 104) may comprise first and second contiguous planes. The amount of
RF energy coupled may be controlled by varying the width, density,
diameter, and type of one of the plurality of one-dimensional
nanostructures (102, 104) versus the other. The amount of RF energy
coupled may also be controlled by varying the angle between the first and
second plurality of one-dimensional nanostructures (102, 104) and by
disposing a dielectric material (132) therebetween.
