The present invention relates to a method for the manufacture of labeled oligonucleotide conjugates comprising the reaction of (a) an oligonucleotide having a labile protecting group bound to a terminal hydroxy group, and (b) a labeling compound, wherein said labile protecting group is partially or completely substituted by said labeling compound in a nucleophilic substitution reaction. ##STR00001##
