An explosive cutting charge is formed by machining or otherwise forming a cavity of a desired configuration within a circular ring of metal cutting material such as copper or aluminum. The cavity may then be filled with an explosive material. The cutting characteristics of the cutting charge may be controlled by the selected cross-section configuration of the cavity. The ring may contain a booster explosive charge with connections to the active portion of the ring having the cutting metal material.
