A facsimile module associated with the local area network and located distal the facsimile machine converts digital documents provided from the facsimile machine through the local area network into formats for transmission on the telephone network, such as an analog modem signal, TDM packets representing an analog modem signal or VoIP/FoIP packets representing an analog modem signal.
