Substituted 2-aminotetralin derivatives as selective alpha 2B agonists includes a compound represented by Formula 1: ##STR00001## wherein R.sup.1.dbd.H, methyl, ethyl, propyl, or cyclobutyl; R.sup.2=methyl or H; R.sup.3=pyridinyl X.dbd.C or O. The compounds of Formula 1 can be incorporated in a pharmaceutical compositions and can be used in methods of treating an alpha 2B receptor mediated diseases or conditions.
