Compounds of formula (I) ##STR00001## wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.4, and W are defined in the description are TRPV 1 antagonists with CNS penetration. Compositions comprising such compounds and methods for treating conditions and disorders using such compounds and compositions are also disclosed.
