The access terminal detects a first page message that does not include an access sequence identifier. The access terminal responds to the first page message without waiting for detection of a second page message that includes an access sequence ID. The response to the first page message includes an access terminal retrieves from a shared pool of access sequence IDs stored at the access terminal.
