A cured epoxy coating comprising from about 30% to about 40% of at least one epoxy resin selected from the group consisting of diglycidyl ethers of bisphenol A, from about 55% to about 60% of a particulate flame retardant, from about 1% to about 4% of at least one multifunctional hindered phenol; and no more than about 5% of at least one adhesion promoter. The cured coating provides insulation for electrical current carriers and has an average surface roughness from about 10 m to about 13 m as measured using a Pethometer M4P 150 surface profile measuring instrument.
