aP2 inhibiting compounds are provided having the formula ##STR1##

wherein R1, R2, R3, R4, X-Z and ##STR2##

are as described herein. A method is also provided for treating diabetes and related diseases, especially Type II diabetes, employing such aP2 inhibitor or a combination of such aP2 inhibitor and another antidiabetic agent such as metformin, glyburide, troglitazone and/or insulin.
