The present invention is directed to an impact-absorbing member for use with
an implant insertion instrument and the placement of an implant in a recipient's
body. Preferably, the implant is a spinal implant for insertion into the intervertebral
space. The impact-absorbing member may be attached to the implant insertion instrument,
the implant, or both. The impact-absorbing member reduces the impact forces on
the implant during placement.
