A novel fine carbon wire includes a needle-like fullerene crystal having a smooth
surface. The fine carbon wire can be produced by a method including the steps of
(1) adding a solution containing the fullerene dissolved in a first solvent to
a second solvent having less solvency for the fullerene than the first solvent;
(2) forming a liquid-liquid interface between the solution and the second solvent;
and (3) depositing a fine carbon wire at the liquid-liquid interface.
