The invention provides novel adamantane compounds having one of the
following formulas:

wherein:
R.sub.1 and R.sub.3 are H, OH, alkyl, cycloalkyl, amino or aryl, and can be
the same or different;
R.sub.2 is H, NH.sub.2, alkyl, OH, COOH, amino, amide, or carbamate;
R.sub.4 -R.sub.8 are H, OH, NH.sub.2, alkyl, OH, COOH, ester, amino, amide,
or alkyloxy, and can be the same or different;
R.sub.9 -R.sub.14 are H, alkyl, or phenyl, and can be the same or
different;
and wherein when any of R.sub.1 -R.sub.8 is amino, the compounds are the
free bases and their acid addition salts.
The present invention also relates to compositions and methods for treating
and/or preventing neurological and inflammatory disorders in a patient by
administering a therapeutically effective amount of the compounds of
formula (I), (II) or (III) and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
A invenção fornece os compostos do adamantane da novela que têm uma das seguintes fórmulas: ## do ## STR1 wherein: R.sub.1 e R.sub.3 são H, OH, alkyl, cycloalkyl, amino ou aryl, e podem ser os mesmos ou diferentes; R.sub.2 é H, NH.sub.2, alkyl, OH, COOH, amino, amido, ou carbamate; R.sub.4 - R.sub.8 são H, OH, NH.sub.2, alkyl, OH, COOH, ester, amino, amido, ou alkyloxy, e podem ser os mesmos ou diferentes; R.sub.9 - R.sub.14 são H, alkyl, ou phenyl, e podem ser os mesmos ou diferentes; e wherein quando algum de R.sub.1 - R.sub.8 é amino, os compostos são as bases livres e seus sais da adição ácida. A invenção atual relaciona-se também às composições e os métodos para tratar e/ou impedir disorders neurological e inflammatory em um paciente administrando uma quantidade therapeutically eficaz dos compostos da fórmula (i), (ii) ou (iii) e um portador pharmaceutically aceitável.
