Method for the production of glyceric acid

   
   

Glyceric acid compounds of the formula (I) R.sup.1 R.sup.2 C(OH)--CR.sup.3 (OH)--COOX (I) where R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are independently hydrogen, C.sub.1-12 -alkyl, C.sub.6-12 -aryl, C.sub.7-13 -alkaryl or C.sub.7-13 -aralkyl and X is hydrogen, an alkali metal, an alkaline earth metal/2 or NH.sub.4, are prepared by saponification of glycidic acid compounds of the formula (II) ##STR1## where Y is NH.sub.2 or OR.sup.4 in which R.sup.4 is C.sub.1-12 -alkyl or C.sub.7-13 -aralkyl, with ring-opening addition of water onto the epoxide ring. Preferably, Y is NH.sub.2 and the glycidamide of the formula (II) which is used is prepared by reacting acrylonitriles of the formula (III) R.sup.1 R.sup.2 C.dbd.CR.sup.3 CN (III) with hydrogen peroxide.

Compuestos ácidos glyceric del fórmula (i) R.sup.1 R.sup.2 C(OH) -- CR.sup.3 (OH) -- coox (i) donde están independientemente hidrógeno R.sup.1, R.sup.2 y R.sup.3, C.sub.1-12 - alkyl, C.sub.6-12 - aryl, C.sub.7-13 - alkaryl o C.sub.7-13 - el aralkyl y X es hidrógeno, un metal alcalino, una tierra alcalina metal/2 o NH.sub.4, son preparados por la saponificación de los compuestos ácidos glycidic del ## del ## STR1 del fórmula (ii) donde está NH.sub.2 u OR.sup.4 Y en los cuales R.sup.4 es C.sub.1-12 - alkyl o C.sub.7-13 - aralkyl, con la adición de la anillo-abertura del agua sobre el anillo del epoxide. Preferiblemente, Y es NH.sub.2 y el glycidamide del fórmula (ii) se utiliza que es preparado reaccionando los acrylonitriles del fórmula (iii) R.sup.1 R.sup.2 C.dbd.CR.sup.3 CN (iii) con el peróxido de hidrógeno.
