Method and device for the passive alignment of optic fibers and components, using slots. Given a component, in particular an opto-electronic component (2), that has to be coupled to at least one optic fiber (32, 34, 36), crossed slots are formed in the substrate (4) of the component in order to define, at the intersection of two slots, a housing (22, 24, 26) designed to receive one end of the fiber.
