A system of temporary stabilizing implants are provided at specifically
determined locations in a patient's jawbone for positioning and
temporarily stabilizing a dental surgical template at a specifically
determined orientation with respect to the jawbone. The template is used
to arrange and create osteotomies at sites where permanent dental implants
will be located. The template is removably and replaceably positioned with
respect to the temporary stabilizing implants by the use of components
provided in the template that engage the temporary stabilizing implants,
such that the template may be used over a prolonged time period as
necessary. Once the dental surgical template is no longer needed, the
temporary stabilizing implants are preferably removed.
