A biotechnological method is described for preparing compounds of the
general formulas

wherein R.sup.1 is acyl or acyloxy and R.sup.2 is a hydrogen atom or
C.sub.1-10 alkyl, comprising the conversion of a lactam of the general
formula
##STR2##
by means of a hydrolase in the presence of a nucleophile and in the
presence of a base in a constant pH range.
Also described is the subsequent conversion of the compound of general
formula I into the optically active
1-amino-4-(hydroxymethyl)-2-cyclopentene of the formula

Un método biotechnological se describe para preparar compuestos del ## general del ## STR1 de los fórmulas en donde R.sup.1 es acyl o el acyloxy y R.sup.2 es un átomo del hidrógeno o un alkyl C.sub.1-10, abarcando la conversión de un lactam del ## general del ## STR2 del fórmula por medio de un hydrolase en la presencia de un nucleophile y en la presencia de una base en una gama constante del pH. También se describe la conversión subsecuente del compuesto del fórmula general I en el 1-amino-4-(hydroxymethyl)-2-cyclopentene ópticamente activo del ## del ## STR3 del fórmula
