A method of enhancing the growth of a bird is described. The method comprises (a) administering a compound selected from the group consisting of IGF-1, IGF-2 and active analogs thereof to a bird in ovo; then (b) incubating the bird to hatch; and then (c) growing the bird for at least three weeks after hatch. The compound is administered in ovo in an amount sufficient to enhance the growth of the bird at least three weeks after hatch. Preferred birds for practicing the present invention are chickens, and preferred compounds for practicing the present invention are IGF-1 and analogs thereof. The use of IGF-1, IGF-2 and active analogs thereof for the preparation of a medicament for administration to birds in ovo to ehance the growth of the bird at least three weeks after hatch is also disclosed, along with the pharmaceutical formulations so prepared.

Een methode om de groei van een vogel wordt te verbeteren beschreven. De methode bestaat uit (a) beherend een samenstelling die uit de groep wordt geselecteerd die uit igf-1, igf-2 en actieve analogons daarvan aan een vogel in ovo bestaat; dan (b) uitbroedend de uit te broeden vogel; en dan (c) kwekend de vogel minstens drie weken na broedsel. De samenstelling wordt beheerd in ovo genoeg om te om de groei van de vogel minstens drie weken na broedsel te verbeteren. De aangewezen vogels voor het uitoefenen van de onderhavige uitvinding zijn kippen, en de aangewezen samenstellingen voor het uitoefenen van de onderhavige uitvinding zijn igf-1 en daarvan analogons. Het gebruik van igf-1, igf-2 en actieve analogons daarvan voor de voorbereiding van een geneesmiddel voor beleid aan vogels in ovo aan ehance wordt de groei van de vogel minstens drie weken na broedsel ook onthuld, samen met de farmaceutische zo voorbereide formuleringen.
