The present invention is directed to compounds of formula I, formula Ia, and formula Ib. ##STR1## wherein each of R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3, R.sup.4, R.sup.a, and R.sup.b has been defined herein. The invention is also directed to a process for the preparation, the use and pharmaceutical compositions comprising the compounds described above. These novel compounds are useful in therapy, particularly for the treatment of type 2 diabetes.
