A flame-retardant biodegradable polymeric composition comprising: a flame-retardant biodegradable material comprising a compound represented by formula (1); and a biodegradable polymer: ##STR00001## wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3, R.sup.4, R.sup.5, R.sup.9, R.sup.10 and R.sup.11 each independently represents an alkyl group, an aryl group, or an aralkyl group; R.sup.6, R.sup.7 and R.sup.8 each independently represents an alkylene group; and n, p, and q each independently represents an integer of one or more.
