A method for preventing the formation of cellular gamma prime in nickel-based superalloys comprises the steps of: casting a nickel-based superalloy into a desired article; subjecting the cast article to hot isostatic pressing at a temperature in excess of 2000.degree. F. at a pressure greater than 15,000 psi to close internal pores in the cast article; and avoiding any formation of the cellular gamma prime in the cast article.
