A formulation including a compound of formula (ascorbate).sub.2Sr:(M.sup.+a).sub.x(ascorbate).sub.y, or ascorbate).sub.2Sr:Ca(ascorbate).sub.2, together with calcium phosphate, vitamin D, D-Glucosamine, protein, fiber, flavoring agents, and optionally chondroitin is provided. A method for making the same together with a method of administering the same is also provided.
