The present invention relates to a method of making a coated medical bone implant comprising the step of providing a substrate and then onto said substrate depositing a bioactive crystalline TiO.sub.2 coating using PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) technique at a temperature of more than about 50.degree. C. but less than about 800.degree. C. Coated implants obtained by the method according to the invention display an enhanced biomimetic response.
