This invention provides chemical inhibitors of the activity of various phospholipase enzymes, particularly cytosolic phospholipase A.sub.2 enzymes (cPLA.sub.2), more particularly including inhibitors of cytosolic phospholipase A.sub.2 alpha enzymes (cPLA.sub.2.alpha.).
