A device for cooling exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine comprises a plurality of flow ducts which are connected to an exhaust gas recirculation system of the internal combustion engine, a heat exchanger for a coolant to flow around the flow ducts in order to dissipate the exhaust gas heat, and an insert 7, 7' which is arranged within at least one of the flow ducts. The insert 7, 7' is in thermal contact with the flow duct such that the exhaust gas flows at least partially around the insert. The insert 7, 7' has profiled fins 8, 8', with profiles 9, 9' which are successive in the flow direction of the exhaust gas being arranged so as to be laterally offset relative to one another.
