A user-interactive device (300) includes a user input device (301, 302, 303, 304) to allow a user to enter information, a display device (301) to display information to a user, a memory (320), the memory containing (320A) a logic program, a browser program, and a preferences file, a processor (321) functionally connected to the user input device, the display device, and the memory, and configured to execute the at least one logic program and the browser program, to intercept a request from the browser program for a home page, to inspect a preferences file for browser preference information, to generate a home page for the browser based upon the browser preference information, and to cause the browser program to display the generated home page to the user. User preferences may be stored locally or obtained from an Integrated Library System (315) via a network connection (310).
