A phase difference film characterized in that said film is obtained by orienting and fixing, on a substrate, a composition containing a polymerizable liquid crystal monomer represented by the following formula (I): ##STR00001## wherein, in the formula (I), X represents any one of Br, a halogen atom other than Br, -SMe and -SPh, R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 represent each independently a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 represent each independently an alkylene group of a carbon number of 2 to 12, and R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 represent each independently --O--CO-- or --CO--O--.
