Geldanamycin compounds having a structure according to formula I ##STR00001## where Q.sup.1, L, L.sup.1, R.sup.5, R.sup.6, and R.sup.11 are as defined herein, are useful for treating a disease or disorder ameliorated by inhibiting the function of extracellular heat shock protein-90.
