The invention formula substituted 3-alkyl and 3-arylalkyl 1H indol-1yl acetic acid derivatives which are useful as inhibitors of plasminogen activator inhibitor (PAI-1) useful for treating fibrinolytic disorders, the compounds having the structure ##STR00001## wherein: R.sub.1,R.sub.2, R.sub.3, R.sub.4, R.sub.5, R.sub.6, and R.sub.7 are as defined herein or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or ester form thereof.
