A motorcycle having an improved rear suspension in which the shock leverage rate is decoupled from the spring leverage rate. The springs are coupled directly between the swingarm and the frame, while the shock is coupled to the swingarm and coupled to the engine by a linkage. The rear suspension has a substantially linear spring leverage rate, and a different shock leverage rate which is determined by the linkage and is not necessarily linear. The springs are coupled to the swingarm by a spring base which threads into a ride height adjuster cup which is coupled to the swingarm and which can be rotated to raise and lower the ride height, and a preload cup which is coupled to the frame and which can be rotated to increase and decrease the preload on the spring.
