4-Biarylyl-1-phenylazetidin-2-ones useful for the treatment of hypercholesterolemia are disclosed. The compounds are of the general formula ##STR00001## in which ##STR00002## represents an aryl or heteroaryl residue; Ar represents an aryl residue; U is a two to six atom chain; and the R's represent substituents.
