This invention relates to novel phenylbenzamides of the formula (I) ##STR00001## in which R.sup.1 represents trifluoromethyl, chlorine, bromine or iodine and R.sup.2 represents hydrogen, methyl or ethyl, to a process for preparing these substances and their use for controlling unwanted microorganisms, and to novel intermediates and their preparation.
