The present invention discloses a dipyridine-based compound which can be used as electron-transporting and/or hole blocking material or phosphorous host in organic electroluminescence devices is disclosed. The mentioned dipyridine-based compound is represented by the following formula: ##STR00001## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are identical or different, and R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are independently selected from the group consisting of: hydrogen atom, aryl moiety, hetero cycle, multiple fused ring, multiple fused ring with hetero atom(s); A is selected from the following group: ##STR00002## wherein R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 are identical or different, R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 are identical or different, R.sup.7 and R.sup.8 are identical or different, R.sup.3, R.sup.4, R.sup.7, R.sup.8 are independently selected from the group consisting of: alkyl moiety and aryl moiety, and R.sup.5, R.sup.6 are independently selected from the group consisting of: alkyl moiety, aryl moiety and arylamine moiety.
