A customizable remote transceiver for communicating with a vehicle control system comprises: a first input for receiving a first command; a second input for receiving a second command; a processor for generating a control signal based on one of the first and second commands; a transmitter for transmitting the control signal to the vehicle control system; a receiver for receiving a response to the control signal from the vehicle control system; and a display comprising a display area for displaying a representation of one of the first and second commands and of the response transmitted from the vehicle control system, wherein the display area is customizable according to a user preference.
