An organic EL device comprising organic compound layers, at least one of which has a skeleton represented by formula (I): ##STR00001## where L.sub.0 is any one of o-, p-, and m-phenylene groups which have two, three or four rings and which may have a substituent with the proviso that when L.sub.0 is a phenylene group having four rings, the phenylene group may have an unsubstituted or substituted aminophenyl group somewhere therein, R.sub.01, R.sub.02, R.sub.03 and R.sub.04 are each any one of the following groups: ##STR00002## where R.sub.11, R.sub.12, R.sub.13, R.sub.14, R.sub.15, R.sub.16 and R.sub.17 are each a substituted or unsubstituted aryl group, and r.sub.1, r.sub.2, r.sub.3 and r.sub.4 are each an integer of 0 to 5 with the proviso that r.sub.1+r.sub.2+r.sub.3+r.sub.4 1, is less susceptible to physical changes, photochemical changes and electrochemical changes, and can emit light having various colors with high reliability and high light emission efficiency.
