In a diversity CDMA reception apparatus comprising two reception antennas, one of reception levels in two reception antennas is gradually increased during a predetermined time interval while another of the reception levels is gradually decreased during the predetermined time interval. During the predetermined time interval, strength of a received electric field is measured and one of the two reception antennas is selected in accordance with a measured result. In this event, the diversity CDMA reception apparatus is provided with two attenuators corresponding to the two reception antennas to make an attenuating amount of one of the two attenuators gradually decrease and to make an attenuating amount of another of the two attenuators gradually increase. In addition, a first accumulated amount of the strength of the received electric field for the first half of the predetermined time interval and a second accumulated amount of the strength of the received electric field for the letter half of the predetermined time interval are measured and one of the two reception antennas is selected in accordance with a comparison result between the first and the second accumulated amounts.
