A valve train system for operating an intake valve of an internal combustion
engine,
in which an operation amount of the intake valve is controlled. When it is determined
that there is a need of improving a fuel efficiency by increasing the compression
ratio within the combustion chamber on the basis of an engine operating state,
an exhaust valve is opened and subsequently closed after an intake stroke until
the pressure within the exhaust chamber becomes equal to the pressure within the
exhaust passage so as to increase the compression ratio within the exhaust valve.
