A safe and effective live vaccine against Flavobacterium columnare of fish was created through the induction of an adhesion deficient isolate of Flavobacterium columnare using a -lactam antibiotic (ampicillin). Single immersion exposure of fish stimulated acquired immunity against virulent F. columnare infection.
