A decorative light string assembly comprises a string of light bulb sockets electrically interconnected by an electrical cord and terminated by at least one electrical connector. A plurality of decorative light bulbs are mated with the sockets. Each decorative light bulb comprises a plain light bulb covered by a flexible outer coating in the shape of a candle flame. The decorative light bulbs may include colors or scents associated with particular holidays, seasons or occasions. A decorative light string assembly kit and a method for making a decorative light string assembly are also provided.
