The invention provides an optically active polyesteramide comprising at least a structural unit represented by the following general formula (I) and a structural unit represented by the following general formula (II). ##STR1## In the general formula (I), R.sup.1 and R.sup.8 independently represent a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, or an aryl group. R.sup.2 to R.sup.5 and R.sup.9 to R.sup.12 independently represent a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, an alkyl group, or an alkoxy group. R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 as well as R.sup.8 and R.sup.9 may form a 5- or 6-membered ring. R.sup.6 and R.sup.7 as well as R.sup.13 and R.sup.14 independently represent a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group. Ar.sup.1 and Ar.sup.2 independently represent a single bond, 1,4-phenylene, naphthalene-2,6-diyl, or 1,4-phenylene or naphthalene-2,6-diyl substituted by at least one halogen atom, alkyl group or alkoxy group. In the general formula (II), A represents a divalent substituent.
