New polycyclic cyclopentadiene compounds having the formula (II) wherein
the various substituents and symbols R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3, R.sub.4,
R.sub.5, R.sub.6, R.sub.7, Z.sup.1 and Z.sup.2 and "n" have the meaning
specified in the description. These compounds can form metallocene
complexes with transition metals, which have shown unusual properties in
the (co)polymerization of ethylene and alpha-olefins in general
