Selective coupling of terminal olefins with ethylene to manufacture linear .alpha.-olefins

A process for producing a linear .alpha.-olefin which comprises: reacting a stoichiometric excess of a terminal C.sub.n olefin with ethylene in the presence of an organometallic catalyst to produce a C.sub.n+2 linear .alpha.-olefin, wherein the catalyst is capable of producing a Schulz-Flory distribution of the linear .alpha.-olefin with a Schulz-Flory constant of less than about 0.8 and wherein n is an integer between about 3 to 20.

Процесс для производить линейный alpha.-olefin состоит из: реагирующ стехиометрический избыток олефина стержня C.sub.n с этиленом in the presence of металлоорганический катализатор для того чтобы произвести линейный alpha.-olefin C.sub.n+2, при котором катализатор способен производить распределение Schulz-Flory линейного alpha.-olefina с константой Schulz-Flory меньш чем около 0.8 и при котором н будет интежер между около 3 к 20.
