The present invention provides a method of producing a porous carbon
material in which a soft carbon-type carbon material is activated with
alkali in the presence of a carboxylic acid ion and at least one metal ion
selected from the group consisting of iron ions, cobalt ions, manganese
ions and nickel ions. The method is capable of industrially producing a
porous carbon material having a specific surface area per unit volume of
1000 (m.sup.2 /cm.sup.3) or more in high yield and at low cost. The
packing density of the porous carbon material can also be increased, and a
high capacitance per unit volume can be obtained when the porous carbon
material is used as a polarizable electrode material. Therefore, the
present invention also provides an electrical double layer capacitor
having a small size and a large capacitance, and using the porous carbon
material as a polarizable electrode.
La présente invention fournit une méthode de produire un matériel poreux de carbone en lequel un carbone-type mou matériel de carbone est activé avec de l'alcali en présence d'un ion d'acide carboxylique et au moins d'un ion en métal choisis dans le groupe les ions de fer, des ions de cobalt, des ions de manganèse et des ions de nickel. La méthode est capable de produire industriellement un matériel poreux de carbone ayant une superficie spécifique par volume unitaire de 1000 (m.sup.2 /cm.sup.3) ou plus dans le rendement élevé et à bas pris. La densité d'emballage du matériel poreux de carbone peut également être augmentée, et une capacité élevée par volume unitaire peut être obtenue quand le matériel poreux de carbone est employé comme matériel polarizable d'électrode. Par conséquent, la présente invention fournit également un double condensateur électrique de couche ayant une petite taille et une grande capacité, et employant le matériel poreux de carbone comme électrode polarizable.
