A fixing device for an image forming apparatus includes a fixing heat
roller having disposed therein a plurality of heater lamps and serving to
press a paper sheet conveyed between the fixing heat roller and a pressure
roller for heat fixing a toner image formed on the paper sheet. A control
logic operates, in activating the heater lamps, to drive at least one of
the heater lamps earlier than the other heater lamps and to drive the
other heater lamps with a predetermined time delay. The at least one
heater lamp of the plurality of heater lamps has a power consumption which
is smaller than that of the other heater lamps.
